My parents called me their "water baby" and from as far back as I can remember I just loved being around water, either at the beach or in our swimming pool at home.

When I turned five, I joined in at Nippers and my fondest memories are of playing games in the sand and wading into the waves. Then as I got older, I was taught how to ride waves on a board and body surf. I loved the days of big surf and catching waves with my sisters.

I also remember watching the Ironmen and Ironwomen on the TV with my family and cheering on our champions. Karla Gilbert was my favourite and continues to be my role model even today.

Over this last season I have realised a dream I have held since I was a Nipper on Sawtell Beach: To be the 2011 Australian Ironwoman Champion and winner of the inaugural Karla Gilbert medal as the leading point scorer in the 2010/2011 Ironwoman Series is a dream come true and a huge honour for me. It was the hardest year of training I have ever put in and it involved a lot of personal sacrifices, but it was worth it.

My goal is to now build upon this success by demonstrating my dedication and focus to this profession like never before, and in doing so, to help raise the overall standard and profile of Ironwoman racing to a new level. I also want to be a role model and source of inspiration for all the Nippers who love the water like me.

Whilst I have always based my racing around a very high level of fitness and commitment, I also have to ensure that the equipment, gear and swimwear I use are the very best for me.
